Community Service
The Wimberley Valley Quilt Guild members use their quilting skills to support area community projects, charities and other non-profit organizations in need. Towards this endeavor, we encourage each member to contribute one quilt during their birthday month or two yards of fabric.
The Hays Caldwell Women's Shelter in San Marcos is a place for battered and abused women and their children to seek refuge and plan for their future. We have chosen this charity to make comfy quilts and other items to bring warmth into their lives in a time of confusion.

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing. We have chosen this charity to make comfy quilts to welcome families into their new homes.

WVQG Annual Christmas Market
The Wimberley Presbyterian Church holds a Christmas Market every year for nonprofit organizations to participate in. Our WVQG sells homemade items donated by our members, such as Christmas decorations, pillowcases, tote bags, table runners, place mats, and quilts. Our guild donates 50% of the proceeds from the sale to the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center. The other 50% is used for charity projects, such as making Kids' Quilts, Habitat for Humanity, and Special Projects we choose to do.
Barnabas Connection
As of September 2023, we are adding the Barnabas Connection to our Community Service projects. They are a service to the Wimberley Community in times of crisis or when a family may be in need. They have bought the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection building, and are remodeling it to be able to temporarily house a family in crisis (such as after a house fire). It is important to them to provide Case Management to the Wimberley Community, and offer Mental Health services by their clinicians. We will provide 5 kids size quilts that they have requested so far. We may also donate some lap size quits in the future, when they are requested.
Grace Lutheran Blessing of the Quilts
Update from Bert Nickelson:
Grace Lutheran Church has completed more than 120 quilts to send to World Relief Quilts. This is a very small group of ladies that mange to make these quilts and I want to share with members who have donated fabric to them so everyone can see there is no fabric that goes unused. If you look close, you might even see something you have donated! The church dedicates them on Palm Sunday and then they are boxed and mailed out on the Monday. They will take a little break but I know they will be back cutting and pressing and stitching soon. I will always see that they get any fabric that we cannot use for our own charity projects. I also would like to add that they are involved with the Grandmas Christmas Stocking Project and I often take Christmas fabrics to them. They also make string quilts for a teen girls home so they do find a way to use almost every thing I take to them. Grace Lutheran is in San Marcos so if anyone might be interested in helping with these quilts, they are always welcome and can contact me for more information. They meet almost every Tuesday morning throughout the year. Thank you again for sharing your fabric and I hope you will enjoy seeing how they are used.
